Baby girl had her first surgery Friday and got tubes. I knew this day was going to come based off the multiple ear infections and family history, but was dreading the thought of her getting surgery. We went in for a consultation with Dr. Eyen a week before and he recommended we get tubes before the winter. Seeing that it was the end of the year and we had already reached our deductible, we decided we would take the first appointment he had. The scheduling girl initially said there was nothing available, but after Andy did some “talking” she found a Friday appointment for us and got us in J
So we checked in at 6:30 Friday morning to Children’s Mercy and awaited the 8:00 surgery. The nurses there were all super nice and comforting. We prepped in this little room where they had Annabelle put on a hospital gown with Disney characters all over it. We were slightly nervous that we weren’t going to be able to have the surgery because the night before Annabelle had a 101 fever and was not feeling well. But they examined her and felt comfortable still performing the surgery, which was great, because she was sick due to ANOTHER ear infection. The surgery was super quick and they were able to drain her infected ear. We were so sad when they took her away from us and back to the operating room, but it was no longer than 25 minutes after that Dr. Eyen was out in the waiting room telling us she had done great and that the tubes were in. We were quickly called back to go get her, which she was completely out of it and balling. We had to wait for her to recover for awhile and then got to go home and have family naptime for a few hours. After sleeping it off she woke up a happy little camper and was good as new!!
Fingers crossed it was the ticket to no more ear infections and a more comfortable, happy, healthy Annabelle!!!
