Overall our drive out was pretty good. We had a few rocky moments where Annabelle was upset and wanted out of her car seat, but for the most part she did great. I drove the entire way and Runge and Leah played mom, keeping Annabelle and Isabelle entertained the whole way. We sang, played games, went through every toy in the car, did anything to keep ourselves sane and the babes entertained. We stopped in Denver to get some food and get the kids out of the car. I think we were getting close to our breaking point. The boys were in good spirits and didn't seem to have the tension that we had. I think Greyson was calmer than our car. Needless to say we arrived in Vail Thursday in time for cocktail hour, safe and happy!
The trip was filled with yummy food, drinks, amazing weather, shopping and fun. We had the best time! Our mornings were so relaxing waking up to 40-50 degree weather, drinking coffee by the fire, letting the kids play and knowing we had a day full of really nothing.
We went into Vail our first day walked around and had lunch out. We then went back to the house to put the kids down and sat outside and drank wine and watched people golf. Saturday we celebrated Runge's 30th birthday with breakfast out at a cute cafe, then us girls went to a Farmer's Market and shopped all day while the boys played golf. We then went out to din to celebrate and had delicious meals and fabulous martini's. Sunday we went into Beaver Creek to stumble upon "Octoberfest". It was bumping! There were tents everywhere, food, people, beer, very fun atmosphere. When we were at lunch we decided that we would try to leave at the kids bedtime and drive through the night. The ride out wasn't horrible, but because we were dealing with an 8 month old, 22 and 23 month old, we should try the whole night time driving thing. So we played all day and then headed out of Vail about 8:00 Sunday night. We drove through the night and pulled into KC about 7:00 Monday morning. Yes, looking back it was crazy, but nice to have Monday at home and have the littles sleep. Annabelle did so great on the drive home. Only waking up when we pulled in for gas because of the bright lights and when we transferred bags in Salina. I was able to hold her hand and get her right back down, so that was a lifesaver.
Highlights from the trip:
- Annabelle loved the mountains! Or so I think. She was such a trooper and her happy little self. She did great with nap times and napped during the afternoons when the big kids napped.
- We learned to CRAWL!!! Andy got it in action and saw her crawl for her first time. She took a few hands and feet forward and it was so cute!
- The weather was amazing and it was so fun to dress her in warmer clothes!
- On the way out at our first stop, when we pulled Annabelle out of the car, she had an explosion all over herself and car seat. It took all 3 of us Moms to clean her up. Needless to say her outfit went in the Limon trashcan.
- We changed her diaper in the most public places ever. We laid down paper towels on bathroom floors and changed her diaper in places I never thought I would. We were in survival mode, so had to do what we had to do. Thank goodness for Lysol wipes.
Here are some of my favorite pics from the trip!
