Pneumonia

Our poor little pumpkin has pneumonia.  They say when it rains it pours and it sure did.  I started a new job on Monday and low and behold daycare called because Annabelle had a fever.  Fortunately Andy was able to leave and pick her up, but we weren’t sure what promoted the fever.  Wednesday morning she woke up and had a ton of junk in her ears and could tell she did not feel well.  She had been battling a nasty cough for about a week and it seemed to be getting worse.  So we took her to the doctor that night she had a double ear infection and RSV.  We were confused as to why she had a double ear infection with tubes, but guess 10% of babies/kids will get an ear infection in the first 2 months after getting tubes and she fell into that smaller percentage J  Of course.

The week continued on and I was trying to adjust to the new job, but was so concerned with her not feeling well.  Friday night she was up in the middle of the night wailing with a 106 fever.  Saturday morning we called the doctor and they wanted to see her immediately because of the high fever.  I guess I was so sleep deprived that didn’t realize at 2:30 in the morning how serious that fever was and should have taken more action that we did.  Regardless, they tested her for the flu and said to continue the medicine she was on (breathing treatments, ear drops and oral).  They said they wanted to see her early the following week if things had not improved.  The weekend came and went and her fevers continued.  They were sporadic, but still pretty high 103 and 104. Tuesday morning we woke up and she had a rash all over her body, high fever and could not take it any longer.  So we went to the doctor and they ordered chest X-rays and blood work.  We spent Tuesday morning torturing Annabelle getting X-rays done and blood work drawn to find out that she had pneumonia.  I didn’t realize that they take blood from babies like they do adults and had to sit on a chair with her and they rubber-banded off her upper arm and put an iv through her vein.  Surprisingly she did not cry at all.  I think she was so miserable and had been tortured enough lately with all the doctor visits and breathing treatments that she didn’t have the energy to fight it L

We were so thankful that they did not have to admit her and caught it when we did.  Thank god she is better and to her sweet, happy self.
